10/2/23:

The campaign is really moving forward, and we are having a big event on 10/12/23. Pat Herrity and Tim Hugo will be coming out to support the campaign. We are working with a few others as well.

It will be a great night and you will learn a lot about the county, its issues, and my vision for it. Pat and Tim will also be able to answer any questions you may have!

I hope you can make it!

10/1/2023:

I had the pleasure to attend a wonderful event sponsored by 76 Friendship Celebration. It was an event put on to celebrate India’s independence and 76 Friendship is jointly run by folks from India and Pakistan. They are working together to improve relations together and to promote religious freedoms for each country. There were Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Christians all in attendance celebrating the day together in peace, love, and harmony. I wish our country could one day all get together in love and put aside our differences in religion and just be together in love!

September 27, 2023:

I shared my vision for Fairfax County at the Sully District Council of Citizens Associations forum. They invited all candidates to come and speak and share their vision and answer questions.

Unfortunately, my opponent did not attend, and I am not sure if she even responded to not attend.

I shared my vision on the following:

  1. Fight rising taxes: Migration of residents out of the County, eroding our tax base; Meals tax update; Spending issues; As your Supervisor, I will work to appoint an Auditing firm to do a line-by-line review of the financials and mark out non-essential spending then we can make some hard decisions on whether they should be expenses on the taxpayers.
  2. Police: They are undermanned, overworked, under-supported, and highly stressed, we need the strongest police force so our county and our communities can flourish. No one will want to move back or stay in a county with the crime rising as it has in Fairfax. The Board of Supervisors needs to use its platform to have the Commonwealth Attorney prosecute crimes and do his part in protecting our businesses and citizens.
  3. Schools: How can our once top 3 county in school scores be going down? Scores are down, yet we are spending more per pupil than ever before. Good schools can ensure our kids are prepared for their futures. The Board of Supervisors needs to use its platform to make sure the School Board and Superintendent are doing their jobs at teaching our kids, reading, writing, math, and other courses at early ages.
  4. Land Use Issues: We need common sense land development; No data centers next to our communities or adjacent to our streams that feed our water resource; no sports tourism along dangerous roads and communities like the one being discussed at Halifax Park; Adopt the noise airport noise contours from 2019 not using old ones that don’t reflect the growth of Dulles Airport.
  5. Transparency: We cannot have a task group and invite firms or individuals with a stake in it to determine changes in our zoning. For example, for Parking Reimagined, developers were part of the task group reducing parking at Condo and HOA properties. Developers want less parking and more units to maximize their profits. They should have included Association Management Firms, Association Attorneys, and Association Board Members.
  6. Accountability: I would work towards having a department of an Ombudsman. With an Ombudsman, residents would have someone to go to raise questions about processes, meetings, and other county issues.

Here is a video of my speech. Originally, we were going to have 7 minutes, so I had to cut it back and then in the end there were some technical issues with the sound. Overall, a good clear message was sent, and a better vision was laid out for the citizens to see.

Today I had the pleasure of speaking at a Planning Commission meeting regarding the County Board of Supervisors initiative called “Parking Reimagined”.

Here is the link to my speech:

fairfaxva d200e351 2c73 11ee b4fc 0050569183fa 1 – YouTube

This initiative is not a bad concept but is flawed in the way that they put together this new ordinance. The areas that they miss they are wrong are:

1 – They did not open this to a broader base of residents and entities of Fairfax County.

  • Having county employees, some commercial companies, apartment management firms, and developers decide on the essence of this new bill was not enough, and even worse having developers help on this is wrong. Developers want less parking so they can save money, so naturally they would push for that. Additionally, they did not include association attorneys, HOA board members, and real estate agents for their feedback. Each of them has direct knowledge of the many parking issues at condos and townhome communities. Reducing parking would only exacerbate the issue that residents at these housing units suffer already.

2 – In my direct experience with HOA and Condo Management there is not enough parking and reducing the parking will create more “parking wars” and animosity than ever before.

  • There are serious issues with parking already. Buyers of homes always ask about parking, and owners in the communities fight over parking spaces every day. We are not a high-density county where residents are getting rid of their parking spaces.

3 – People are just not ready to ride mass transit, mass transit is not readily available throughout the county and studies show that even in 20 years from now about 30% of the population will use mass transit.

  • Many locations in the county don’t even have reliable bus services so how can residents get to and from work, stores, and recreational events for kids? Mass transit has been around for how long? Yet it is still not used and creating further tax repercussions since WMATA is underfunded by over $750 million so residents will have to pay that bill in their taxes. How can folks who work off hours use mass transit? If residents cannot park in their community and they have kids, how can they get them to and from events and appointments?

Overall, right now it is not the time for this, let’s keep parking limits the same at residential properties and look at commercial areas to be reduced as parking lots are built for worst-case scenarios and many spaces remain open every day.

I had the pleasure to speak at the Liberty Republican Women’s Club BBQ and Picnic along with several other candidates running for local office and couple running for State Election in 2024.

I handed out a flyer showing the stats and graphs for taxes, crime, and school scores. It is attached.

Taxes have grown faster than inflation and household incomes, crime is up by over 24% since 2019 and school scores are down in each high school in Sully District.

This is not the Fairfax County I grew up in and it certainly is not acceptable for what was once a top 3 County in the Country. I want to be a voice for you and be a voice on the Board to help correct these issues.

Folks, I cannot say this enough, it is a very important election and to change the direction of the County we need to elect members who can see the issues and will work to solve the issues. The election is November 7th and early voting begins in September.

I promise to be the voice for change so please help spread the word, donate to the campaign and volunteer to canvas neighborhoods, and stand at a precinct on Election Day!

I am grateful for the opportunity and to each of you for your support!

Just had a 4 hour meeting with candidate Arthur Purves for Chairman of Board. We reviewed data on taxes and how they are growing faster than inflation and household incomes; crimes from homicides, larceny and shoplifting are all rising; school scores are down yet budgets are growing; migration of residents and companies leaving the county causing loss of $14B of individual incomes per IRS tax return data. Graphs and charts to follow that will back up each of those statements.

Change has to happen and 8 years of the democrat majority of the current board is enough! Spread the word folks this election means a lot for your county. Vote 11/7!

June 24, 2023

I wanted to take a moment to get you an update regarding my campaign and let you know some other good news.

First of all, I have attended some “meet and greets” and roundtable discussions. I have met some very passionate residents of Sully and Fairfax County.

Here are some of the concerns of those that I have met:

  1. Communities; Protecting their greatest asset, their home. Zoning, Data Centers and other matters effecting their investments.
  2. Taxes: Annual Tax increases causing burdens on the residents and if this continues residents won’t be able to afford to live here.
  3. Crime: Seeing car break-ins, home invasions, robbery, theft and other crimes growing, is alarming and causing residents to not feel safe. Crime is rising yet prosecutions are less.
  4. Schools: More and More Residents are learning and understanding the school curriculums and FLE teachings. Parents do not want their kids taught many of the topics that are being taught in school today. Plus, scores are down yet budget is rising.
Those issues run across party lines, and everyone I have met genuinely feel change is needed. I have also discussed who I am as a person and my background. Overwhelmingly, after those conversations I have been told by everyone they feel like they can trust me.

Now to some other great news; Did you see the Democratic primary results?

If you did and if you broke the results down by District you would find that the two candidates running against the long-time incumbents for Board of Supervisors Chairman and Commonwealth’s Attorney (Both County Wide Seats) each beat the incumbent in Sully. Lisa Dowing got 51% of the vote for Board of Supervisors Chairman and Ed Nuttall got 57% of the vote for Commonwealth Attorney. In Sully District the Democrats voted for change because they do not like the direction of the County.

The Results are Below.

Given the meet and greets, conversations I have had with members of both parties, and these election results, change can happen now, but it will take each of you to help.

I truly need your help with each of the following:
  1. Donations to get this campaign fully funded.
  2. Volunteers to help canvas and keep the movement going.
  3. Everyone to spread the word to their family and friends to grow a grassroots movement for change.
Please prayerfully consider the above and help with each of the three items!

Money is needed to pay attorneys, consultants, printing, materials and more, if change is going to happen, it will start with you!

June 10, 2023

I had the pleasure to share my ideas for Fairfax in front of many folks and other candidates running for office for state and local elections. The event was held by the Fairfax County Chapter of the NAACP. It was held at Chantilly Baptist Church that dates back to 1880. How awesome it is to see a church thrive for 143 years?

They asked the Board of Supervisor Candidates what three things we would do if elected. Here are mine:

1 – Use my two ears to listen to the citizens of Fairfax whose voices go unheard, and surveys are answered yet the current Board votes against the results of the survey. I will bring professionals with experience with a particular issue and work with them to solve those issues. I will bring to the table all people of every color, every religion and all walks of life to solve issues of Fairfax.

2 – We have to create new revenue streams for countering the constant rising of our taxes. Commercial real estate is deflated so the current Board raises the property taxes to offset those losses verse removing non-essential spending. These taxes are creating financial hardships on the residents of Fairfax. Higher taxes mean less money in your bank account, less money to spend on necessities for our families and less money on whatever you would like to buy. Taxes have rose faster than our incomes and that cannot happen in our County.

3 – There is a great migration out of Fairfax County. Per recent census there was over 8,000 people who migrated out of Fairfax County. This migration out amounts to $14B less in incomes for Fairfax. We have to make Fairfax a County where people and companies want to be and thrive. We have to correct the issues why they leave.

I only had 90 Seconds but I would have liked to talk about our communities. The biggest asset most residents in Fairfax have, is their home. We have to protect the communities so people can thrive, and home values can rise. We have to stop the Data Centers from being placed across the streets of our communities and if they are they have to have bigger setbacks, place evergreen tree berms around and fence in all mechanical equipment on roof and ground to reduce noises. We have to read the data about water runoff, these new data centers are being placed next to our creeks and waterways that feed to the Occoquan Watershed and that is the water source for Fairfax County Water.

My opponents were talking about affordable housing for everyone. That is certainly needed, and I support that idea. What I have seen though is the county thinking about rental markets for them. I say how about programs for downpayments and financing for them to buy a home. We have a home ownership issue, let’s put more residents in a home that they own and can be proud of! I said elect me, I am the best candidate to figure this issue out as I have been in Real Estate Sales & Management since 1995 and Community Management since 2011.

There was more I wish I could have discussed but that will come at another time!

May 10, 2023

On May 9th, I went to the Board of Supervisors meeting and spoke regarding ZMOD. There are many aspects of ZMOD that are well intentioned and needed. However, there are many items that need to be addressed and should not go through without further discussion and research. Here is the video:

My biggest concerns are with our existing communities changing to high density areas through added apartments within existing single- family homes. Streets and schools not capable of handling the influx of residents and more vehicle traffic that will occur. Having more kids will overcrowd schools that are already overcrowded with students learning in trailers and teachers having even more students per class. One of the teacher’s biggest comments is there are too many kids in a classroom so those that need extra help are not able to get that help they need to thrive in school.

Secondly, residential neighborhoods are not zoned for businesses, so certain home-based business do not belong in residential neighborhoods. This addition to the zoning will allow businesses to have employees work out of a residential property and bring more vehicle traffic and deliveries. This will create safety issues for communities and children playing.

Thirdly, changing zoning to allow datacenters closer to residential communities is just wrong and on top of it they didn’t set up restrictions for setbacks, tree canopy rules and there are newer technologies where these datacenters can be built with even lower noise levels that are below the current noise ordinances so why not develop these new rules and restrictions prior to changing the Zoning. Datacenters can add to the tax base and help with our ever-increasing real estate property taxes, but we need to be smart and place rules, restrictions and protect the environment and communities prior to having them next to our wonderful neighborhoods.

The current Board wants more and more with no plan. Coming soon is a discussion about the roads to be modified and have more kids walking to school. The roads are already overcrowded, now add the ALU’s and HBB’s and they are more overcrowded. Who is at fault for this, it is the current board and now they are going to try and retrofit a solution to a problem that they created.

Elect me to protect our communities, protect our kids, promote healthy activities for kids to play outside and fight to place restrictions on datacenters so our communities can thrive and not be depressed.

 May 5, 2023

When I decided to run, I met with several residents of Sully and throughout Fairfax County, both Democrats and Republicans.
They have all been united around a new zoning ordinance that was originally approved then struck down by VA Supreme Court. It was back on the table to discuss and after listening to the residents and reading certain aspects I went and spoke at the planning commission on May 3rd.
The video is below.
The original intent of the Board of Supervisors was to take many years of updates and addendums and combine to one easy to read and searchable document. That was needed and I commend the Board for taking on such a tall task. The issue is at some point during that project they decided it was necessary to write new ordinances into the document. Some are good ideas and needed but many are bad ideas with some serious unintended consequences. The main concerns of the many residents I spoke with and heard speak at the meetings are:
  1. Allowing apartments to be built into single family homes.
  2. Home Based Businesses allowed in homes and neighborhoods.
  3. Changing zoning areas to allow more datacenters.

Having heard the concerns and using my knowledge of real estate and association management here are comments regarding these:

  1. Allowing apartments to be built in basements will add density to our community. The higher density will bring more vehicle traffic, cars parked on the roads, strain on services and more kids in the already overcrowded schools.
  2. Adding Home Based Business will add more trucks for deliveries, more cars parked on street and other strains on your community. Residential areas are not zoned for business so they should not allow certain business types.
  3. Datacenters can add to the County tax base and theoretically reduce our property taxes but I have no confidence our current board will do that. Changing the zoning to allow them closer to our communities sometimes within 100 feet is wrong. Additionally, adding them without setting any restrictions for large trees to cover them, add lower noise ordinances to force them to use better technologies that reduce noise and finally without looking at environmental issues that come with datacenters.

These center around a theme of my campaign which is to protect our neighborhoods, their values and help them to flourish. I want to see our kids outside playing and feel safe play doing that and feel safe walking or riding their bikes to school.

I would have never thought I would enter politics and run for an office but after seeing far too many issues in the County that I have lived my whole life, I thought why not me and since no one else stepped up to serve the County with another perspective and give new possibilities for Fairfax, I decided to run.

It will certainly be an uphill battle, but anything is possible. It will take several hundred volunteers and several thousands to donate to my campaign. I appreciate it if you could give what you can and if you can spare a few hours here and there to canvas please fill out the volunteer form.

You can check out my website to see my platform and what I promise to do for Fairfax www.keith4fairfax.com.

Lastly as a man of faith I have been and will continue to pray over all aspects of this campaign, can you join me in daily or weekly prayer of this campaign?

Thanks everyone for your support and God Bless!’
